Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important official commented the vandalism left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
