Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.
The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and given more than over two decades in jail, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.
High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the elderly politician was a precautionary step after recent developments were revealed.
This involved seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could enable a potential flight.
Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks
In a document approving the arrest, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".
This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the protest called by his offspring.
His child, his son Flávio, who serves as a senator, called for a assembly of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.
Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your settee? I invite you to struggle with us."
He said the vigil would be so supporters could "pray for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our country."
Foreign Shelter Risks
Part of the magistrate's ruling was the possibility of Bolsonaro's "relocation to diplomatic missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a background of arranging to ask for protection through a consular facility", a announcement said.
The judicial paperwork underscores that the United States embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around 8 miles from his dwelling.
Worldwide Consequences
Bolsonaro's legal woes have drawn the ire of fellow populist conservative United States President President Trump, prompting him to impose a 50% tariff on imports of Brazilian goods.
The former president is being held in a Federal Police station in Brazil's capital city and will undergo a detention review on the following day.
Latest Court Petitions
It was only on the previous day that the his legal team asked the Supreme Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.
They also asked that he be authorized to leave his home for medical care, saying he demanded ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other health problems.
Context of Sentencing
The former president was found guilty of heading a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the presidential race to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a scheme which included plans to kill his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.
The plot was stopped because it couldn't obtain the backing of the armed forces officials. His successor was inaugurated without incident on the first day of 2023.
But a following week, on January 8th, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed government buildings in the capital, Brazil's capital.
The security forces took action and around 1,500 people were arrested.
The justices found that the protesters had been provoked by him whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.
At the period, his attorneys called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".
He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the completion of his term.
The ex-leader called the trial a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the next presidential race.
