19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since that period of that year.
Victory also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.
However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a third set.
Moutet defended four early-game opportunities in a close final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
